Shattering the Industry Standard

Amsoil is shattering the industry standard

The new levels of Protection and Performance are shattering the industry standard specifications

The new Amsoil Signature Series, XL and OE formulations will be launching soon, putting Amsoil passenger car motor oil line(PCMO) way ahead of the game.

The lubrication industry is going through some challenging changes, and the PCMO segment of the industry is not exempt. Evolving engine technologies and tightening regulations requiring stricter specifications, putting pressure on motor oil companies to update their formulations to meet the latest requirements.  AMSOIL has once again led the way and found the most innovative solutions to the new requirements.

The story behind the new specifications
New industry standard regulations on fuel economy and emissions have pushed the automotive industry to develop smaller, more efficient engines. With the emergence of direct injection (GDI) and turbochargers being employed in new automobiles to meet the rising corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards, the PCMO industry is forced to follow creating new burdens on motor oil manufacturers. Low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and increased engine temperatures are two more very serious challenges to arise from the use of GDI and turbos.

Two new engine oil specifications for gas automobiles have been developed to address these issues:

  • dexos1® Gen 2 [General Motors (GM)*] – which is expected to be released sometime in late August of 2017

  • API SP/ILSAC GF-6 – which is expected to be released sometime in the Fall of 2019

After months of intense testing, Amsoil has produced new formulations that far surpass the latest standards and adds another level of performance and protection to an already solid foundation.

Regarding of the current Amsoil Signature Series Synthetic Motor Oil line, improving on the Signature Series line was definitely a challenge. However the test results reaffirms that the new formulation far exceeds the the latest industry standards.  Taking advantage of its firmly established success, Amsoil has upgraded the Signature Series motor oil line that affords automobile enthusiasts with the maximum protection and performance.  The formulation has changed, the price didn’t change and the new formulation will become available in September of 2017 or when the current inventory is decreased.  It exhibits:

  • 75% more wear protection

  • 100% protection from LSPI

  • Trust of professional engine builders

  • 50% more cleaning power

  • Turbo & direct injection compatibility

  • Guaranteed protection for up to 25,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first

Regarding the current Amsoil XL Synthetic Motor Oil line.

Amsoil XL Synthetic Motor Oils featured an advanced formulation that delivered more cleaning power and promoted longer engine life.  The new formulation provides an even longer extended drain interval, providing up to 12,000 miles or one year of protection.  It is engineered for advanced automotive technology, including turbochargers and direct injection.  The XL motor oil line from Amsoil is the perfect choice for automotive enthusiasts who want to do something extra for their vehicles.  The formulation has changed, however the price has not.  It will be available in October 2017 and exhibits:

  • 25% more cleaning power

  • 100% protection against LSPI

  • Protection that lasts up to 12,000 miles (2,000 more than the current formulation) or 1 year, whichever comes first
  • The requirements needed to be API-licensed so that it can meet the specifications commonly found in automobile owner’s manuals

Regarding the Amsoil OE synthetic motor oil line.

Amsoil OE Synthetic Motor Oil delivers 100% engine protection for advanced automotive technology, including turbochargers and direct injection.  It’s specifically formulated for the longer drain intervals recommended by original equipment manufacturers(OEM).  Amsoil OE synthetic motor oil line is favored by mechanics and drivers alike that seek peace-of-mind protection and exceptional value from a synthetic motor oil.  The formulation has changed, however the price has not.  It exhibits:

  • 100% protection against LSPI

  • Excellent wear protection

  • Sludge and deposit protection

  • The requirements needed to be API-licensed so that it can meet the specifications commonly found in automobile owner’s manuals

A Perfect Score

LSPI is a hot topic in the lubricant industry.  Auto manufacturers need to extract every bit of fuel economy from the vehicles they produce in order to meet increasingly stringent government regulations.  Manufacturers can make fuel-economy gains in today’s vehicles by adjusting vehicles’ programming, but those changes would also almost guarantee LSPI would occur.  LSPI’s often disastrous effects are one of the driving forces in the scramble to create the new motor oil specifications.  To gain about 10% more fuel economy, auto manufacturers will eventually reprogram their vehicles to maximize mpg, inviting LSPI and relying on motor oil to prevent catastrophic results.

Although this switch is slated to still be a couple of years out yet, Amsoil has dedicated a considerable amount of resources to counteract the problem.

The testing that was done shows the oil’s ability to prevent LSPI.  Five LSPI events can occur before a motor oil fails.  Signature Series, XL and OE Synthetic Motor Oil have all passed with zero pre-ignition events, proving that they provide outstanding protection for turbocharged direct-injected engines.

There are several types of fuel injector cleaners out there. The basic ones will only clean the fuel system and the carbon build-up inside the combustion chamber.

If that happens, it might be time to treat your engine to a fuel injector cleaning. Your engine has a lot of moving parts and if there’s gunk and grime buildup inside, it has to work even harder to get the job done.
